Neoharp: The MIDI Controller That Rethinks Harmony
The Neoharp is an unusual MIDI controller that challenges traditional keyboard design. Instead of piano keys, it offers an intuitive approach to making music: choose any chord with your left hand, and the right-hand touch panel automatically locks to harmonically-correct notes. This means you simply can't play wrong notes within your chosen harmony.
How It Works
The layout is straightforward. Your left hand selects from preset chord buttons, including extended options like Maj7, m7, sus4, sus2, dim, 6, and m7-5. Your right hand plays individual notes across 4 octaves on responsive tone keys, or creates elegant glissandos with a finger sweep.

The instrument controls up to 3 channels simultaneously: bass, chords, and tone keys. You can assign different sounds to each channel, building layered arrangements. The companion app (iOS and Android) provides over 30 sounds, 30 rhythmic patterns, and mixing controls for each instrument.
Technical Details
The Neoharp connects via USB-C to smartphones, tablets, or computers. It sends MIDI signals only—no built-in speaker—so you'll need a connected device or external speaker for sound. The controller works as a standard MIDI device with DAWs and hardware synthesizers.
The device comes in three versions: Oak wood (1,840g), Walnut wood (1,540g), or plastic (1,350g). All measure 510 × 190 × 40 mm and draw power through the USB connection. The wooden versions showcase natural materials, while the plastic option reduces weight for travel.
Who It's For
Neoharp targets singers, songwriters, and producers who want to sketch chord progressions quickly without deep music theory knowledge. The design removes barriers to harmony: related chords group together in logical "boxes," making transitions intuitive.
The controller received recognition as a 2025 MIDI Innovation Award entry. It's currently available for pre-order through the manufacturer's website.
