Wunderkammer WoO.1: Portable Sampler Meets Looper in a Keyboard Form

by Little Music

The Wunderkammer WoO.1 marks the brand's first instrument, offering a portable way to capture, manipulate, and perform with sounds. This compact device puts sampling and looping capabilities into a keyboard-style format that fits in a backpack.

Design and Layout

The WoO.1 features a slim, rectangular frame with retro-inspired controls. There's no display – everything is managed through buttons, scissor-switch keys, knobs, and indicator lights. The white case, built-in speakers, and orange knobs create a distinctive look that stands out from typical music gear.

At 245 × 77 × 13.5 mm and weighing just 283.8 grams, it's genuinely portable. The device runs on battery power for up to 50 hours when using headphones, or about 5 hours with the built-in speaker.

Seven Creative Modes

The WoO.1 offers seven different modes to spark creativity: looper mode, sampler mode, finger drum, keyboard mode, music composition, music game, and MIDI mode. Each mode provides a different approach to making music.

The looper mode allows unlimited track layering with save and undo functions. The sampler mode offers one-touch sampling across 140 sample slots. There's also an arpeggiator with quantize and speed adjustment for creating melodic patterns.

Sound Library and Capabilities

The device comes loaded with 161 built-in sounds, including 140 samples, 14 grooves, and 7 Wunder Tracks. Users can also add their own sounds via drag-and-drop file transfer through USB-C.

The internal storage provides 247MB of flash memory, which translates to approximately 24 minutes of audio recording at 44.1kHz/16-bit stereo. Single-track effects mixing includes filters and pitch shifting, plus resampling support for advanced sound manipulation.

Connectivity and Updates

Two USB-C ports handle both charging and MIDI data transmission, allowing integration with DAWs like Ableton Live, Logic Pro, and Cubase. The firmware is upgradable, and in response to user feedback, an audio-in jack for direct sampling has been added to the production version.

The WoO.1 requires no software to operate standalone, making it accessible for quick ideas or extended sessions away from a computer. It's available for pre-order through Kickstarter, with shipping planned for December 2025.
